A fabulous day at the beach. The children were excellent 👌

We love the seaside!🌞🩱🐢🐳🦀

Class RS have been having fun in provision this morning!

Seaside Topic

Enjoying the Bee-Bots🐝

Seaside Topic!

We have loved out seaside surprise morning! We turned our outdoor classroom into a beach with the sandpit and paddling pools. Then we built an ice-cream van out of large-scale construction materials and enjoyed an ice-cream!

We’re learning about Plants

We have been painting flowers trying to think about each part.

We have used construction materials and loose parts to create flowers including leaves and roots.

We have created plant collages and labelled them using our phonics.

We have enjoyed taking on roles in the home corner garden and Garden Centre and Cafe

We have been drawing plants and writing about them too. Look at these fab plants posters!

We are loving our Minibeast topic! We have enjoyed making caterpillars in the creative area and focusing on different joining techniques. We have made malleable mini-beasts and wrote sentences about them. Take a look at our life cycles head bands too!

We have had great fun making Pizzas! We are learning about Italy and we know that pizzas were invented there. We talked about hygiene when cooking and how to handle equipment safely. Our favourite part was eating them!

Earth Day! We have been learning how to look after our world by recycling. We learnt all about the process of recycling and upcycled a tin can into a pencil pot.

We have had a wonderful first week back in school! Take a look at some things we have been up to...

We enjoyed using the laptops this morning. We practised logging onto the school system and using drag and drop.💻

PLEASE SEE OUR REMOTE LEARNING PAGE ON THE LINK BELOW.

Christmas Fun

We have made some elves!

We love our new Christmas additions to the home corner. We have been pretending its Christmas Eve and whilst everyone sleeps Santa has dropped presents off!

We worked together in little teams to print our hands and create big Christmas trees. We loved adding sequin decorations and stars to the top. We've used them to decorate our classrooms and the school hall.

We have been painting Father Christmas!

We have been making some Christmas cards and doing some careful and neat colouring.

We have been busy practising out cutting skills to make a Santa craft!

We have enjoyed printing our own wrapping paper with colour and shape patterns.

Lego Christmas Creations - we used Lego to make christmas trees, stockings, snow men and reindeer. Really careful work everyone!

We have a post office, sorting office, post van and doors for delivery in our new role play area! We have loved pretending to drop off parcels, buy stamps and Christmas wrapping, sort the envelopes, load up the van and deliver through the letter boxes.

Santa Dash

We had so much fun wearing our sports gear and christmas accessories. We were very excited to run around the running track as many times as we could to raise money for our school. We kept on trying even when we were tired, encouraged each other and were so proud of ourselves at the end. Well done everyone!

Nativity

The children have enjoyed creating and painting some of the Nativity characters. Below you can see two wise men and Mary. How lovely and detailed!

The children have been following instructions carefully to draw characters from the Nativity story. How amazing are these ones below?

We have been using number to help us visualise each number. We were very excited to use the GIANT numicon pieces! We focussed specifically on which numbers come before after and inbetween other numbers when in order.

This week we have been on an initial sound hunt! We found lots of objects and listened very carefully for the initial sound. We then sorted these into groups. Have a look at our fab work!

Children in Need 2020

We enjoyed dressing up today in yellow! Look at our colouring competition winners too!

We have loved learning all about firefighters and how they help us. We have been taking on the role of firefighters in our Fire Engine, Fire Station and Sensory Tray areas. Check out some photos below;

We have been practising how to write our names!

Acting out scenarios in McDonalds has been a real highlight for the children! They especially loved the addition of the drive-thru.

We have been focusing on ourselves this week! We have made outselves out of lots of different materials and paint. We know that a person has a body, arms, legs, face, facial features and hair!

Indoor fine motor development

We have been strengthening our finger muscles this week by stretching elastic bands over boards and pinching pegs onto a peg board.

Outdoor Gross Motor Development

We have been building our gross motor muscles outside! We work on our arm strength, wrist strength and finger strength ready for holding a pencil correctly and controlling it well.

Drawing

We have been drawing detailed faces looking at the shapes and colours of each feature. Look at what an amazing job we have done! You could practise this at home :-)

It's September...

We are super excited to meet all of you. We have filmed a short video to show you our Early Years environment - this has changed slightly since the previous videos. We hope you enjoy watching this with your child and that they are very excited to come and see us and their new school next week.

Hello, come and see your new classrooms!

A tour around our Reception classrooms including outdoors for our new children September 2020

School ready challenges for the Summer holidays

Here you will find some challenge videos for you to watch with your child. These are challenges for your child to keep practising over the holidays to ensure they are school ready come September. We have 4 different challenge videos for different areas of the curriculum:

1. Self care (being as independent as possible with toileting, hand-washing etc.)

2. Number (recognition and counting)

3. Writing (fine motor activities, pencil grip and drawing)

4. Reading (sharing and retelling stories)

Please see the school ready checklist which is a document attached below. This, along with the challenge videos will give you an idea of things you can do with your child over summer to make sure they are as independent as possible and ready to start their learning journey at Torrisholme Primary School in September. Please do not panic if your child can not do all of these -  we celebrate that every child is different and we can guarantee that they will all have the best time at school and be supported in any way they need!

If you would like to send us some photos or videos of your child completing these challenges - we would love to see! Email us on: class2020@torrisholme.lancs.sch.uk
