Spring term

In PSHE, we are learning about the importance of a healthy, balanced diet. We have found out what a eat well plate is and have looked at examples of the 5 food groups.

A Midsummers Nights Dream - As part of Shakespeare week, we have been learning this famous play. Today, we have been role playing the different characters. Can you guess our different emotions?

RE - An Important Meal

Please click on the link below to watch our class performance of the Last Supper 😀

Maths

In maths, we have been using geoboards and an iPad geoboard app to create 2d shapes.

PE

We have been practising our dribbling, chest passes, bounce passes an shoulder pass in our basketball sessions.

Phonics

Super common exception word practice with word pyramids.

Reading

We started our new book, The Squirrels who Squabbled and made predictions about what would happen.

English

We have been learning about using apostrophes for contractions.

In maths, we are focusing on time. We enjoyed going outside, drawing our own clocks and challenging each other to show different times on the clocks.

In RE, we have been learning about Palm Sunday. We learned about Jesus and his parade and enjoyed role playing to help us remember the story.

World Book Day - 3rd March 2022

We had a super day celebrating everything ‘bookish’ today. The children looked fantastic dressed as book characters. We did some super book maths, had a book scavenger hunt, drew pictures of our favourite books, shared stories with our friends in year 1, created potato book characters and learnt a song which you can see below…

WE ARE ARTISTS

Have a look at our amazing Lowry Collages. We have worked so hard on them.

In RE we learnt about the 5K’s of Sikhism. We designed a little person representing this -

  • Kesh - long uncut hair as a symbol of respect.
  • Kanga - a comb to keep our hair smart and a symbol of cleanliness.
  • Kara - a bracelet to show that God is never-ending.
  • Kachera - shorts, a symbol so that we are ready for anything.
  • Kirpan - a sword, a symbol of bravery and help for the weak.

We are artists!
We loved creating our collages based on LS Lowry today. We tried very hard with our cutting skills to cut the buildings and matchstick people we had drawn.

We are division dynamos! Today we have been focusing on division by grouping.

We are Engineers

We had an amazing morning with real engineers from BAE Systems on a Zoom lesson. We thought about what an Engineer looks like and the qualities of an Engineer. We then had a challenge to build a tall tower with 4 pieces of paper and some masking tape. After listening to the story of Rapunzel, we designed and built a ’contraption’ to help her escape from the tower, we came up with brilliant designs. What a wonderful end to our We are Engineers topic and thank you to the parents of our year 2 children who organised such a super morning for us.

Listen to our top tips to stay safe online.

We are artists! We have been using watercolours to create a background for our Lowry collages.

SPELLING PRACTICE - we have been using magic pyramids to practise spelling rules before applying in sentences.

In PE we have been trying hard to master our skills of underarm throwing and catching. We then used these skills in a 3v1 game. It was great fun. Well done 2M!

Super Scientists

Continuing our focus on materials, today we have had lots of exploring which materials are most absorbent to wipe up any pesky water spillages in class. We tested plastic, metal, wood and fabric and practised our measuring skills.

Amazing array work in maths

We are Engineers!

What a fantastic day we have had in 2MD. We became Engineers in Design Technology looking at how a bridge is made and then designed our own suspension bridges. All our teams were successful in the final challenge to make cars, trains or people cross the bridge!

In guided reading, we have used our reading superhero pals ‘Retrieval Roger’ and ‘Evidence Erica’ to find answers in the story of ‘The Winter’s Child’.

Silly scenarios ~ We enjoyed using our knowledge of the properties of materials to think of different scenarios if different materials were used to make houses and other objects.

In year 2, we are super scientists. We loved using our knowledge of different materials to label different objects in our classroom. Did you know our classroom door is made up of 3 different materials? It is made from wood, metal and glass!

Marvellous money!
