Wednesday 23.2.2022 saw us welcome a visitor into class from The Ruskin Library, Museum and Research Centre at Lancaster University. Harriet came to spend a session with us to help us enhance our drawing skills. And we must admit, we were very VERY proud of our work from this session. Firstly, we did some imaginative drawing on a given topic within tight time limits. This reminded us that art is about interpretation. Each of our amazing minds does that differently. Thus, our pictures will be gloriously different.
After learning who John Ruskin was and what he enjoyed drawing, we made our own little sketch books and chose a natural object to observe closely and draw. Using magnifying glasses, we could really see the colours, shapes, bumps and ridges, crystals and surface textures of the objects. When we saw what a UV light does to the crystals in rocks, we were shocked! We drew our objects and tried to carefully shade them to show colour and areas of darkness and light.
After that, we created 'fossils' of some objects found in our outdoor area by imprinting them into a small clay disc.
Finally, it was time to enjoy the 4T gallery of work. We created a little display of our work and we wandered around the tables to enjoy and appreciate what our classmates had produced in the session. Lots of positive comments were shared about one another's pieces and we felt genuine pride in our efforts. Watch this space for updates on our dried out 'fossils'.
We thoroughly enjoyed our session - thank you, Harriet for bringing the fun and your knowledge to 4T!
