Summer Term

South Lakes Safari Zoo

The children have been counting down the days and it’s finally here...our long-awaited trip to Dalton Zoo! We had the most amazing time and we were lucky enough to see lots of different animals and feed the giraffes. We hope you enjoy seeing the photos just as much as we enjoyed making these wonderful memories.

Whilst we’ve been learning about Kenya, we’ve also learned a great deal about the Masai tribe. We’ve looked at how they live, their culture and their jewellery. The children have loved using clay to make their own necklaces and they can’t wait to wear them, along with their African masks.

This week we have been very lucky and have had More Music come to visit to teach us some African drumming. The children were fantastic!

It is your child's final half term in Year 2! WOW! It feels only a few weeks ago that they were joining us in September. We have got an exciting half term planned for them. This half term's newsletter has more details.

The children have had the most amazing afternoon dipping into books from a range of fiction, non-fiction (science, technology, animals and history) and poetry. There was an exciting buzz of conversation as children discussed their top reads and why. They had lots of meaningful discussions about what they look for when choosing a book, what excites them as the reader and wanting more of the story. The biggest success of the afternoon was knowing that many children chose books they wouldn’t normally go for but now they’re keen to broaden their reading choices. The juice and biscuits were a big hit too!!

While learning about the special physical feature Uluru in Australia and its importance to the Aboriginal culture, we created some Aboriginal themed artwork.

Pyjamarama day - We have loved sharing our favourite stories today :)

What a super Friday we’ve had. We’ve taken advantage of the sunshine and moved our learning outside. Using our fantastic division knowledge, we solved problems to solve the code breaker task in maths. In English, we became reporters and interviewed each other ready for our newspaper writing next week.

We have finally arrived in our first destination on our cruise - Madagascar.
We have been learning about some of the physical features and the different landscapes we might see. Take a look at our super efforts as we began collaging our own landscapes.
