    Sport Relief Action!

To raise money for Sport Relief, the children came to school looking sporty today! And what a good thing that was, as they have been very active!! Children in Reception and Year 2 both took part in dodgeball tournaments, children in Year 1 could be found running around the field and skipping up and down the playground, whilst Year 4 ran the equivalence of all the way to Birmingham!

A big thank you for all your donations - we raised a total of £417.27 for Sport Relief.

    Sport Relief 2016

As you will be aware, it is Sport Relief on Friday 18th March. We would like the children to wear something sporty or non-uniform with a sporty accessory! This is also a great opportunity to share any sporting achievements. If your child would like to bring in any photos, vcertificates, medals etc, there will be an opportunity within the day to share them.

Finally, classes will be organising a sporting activity to encourage health and fitness. We are just asking for a donation. Many thanks in advance.

She also told us some great new stories, based on the plots of traditional stories that we all know and love. A fun-filled afternoon for everyone!

  • Pupil Parliament Visit London

    Thu 11 Feb 2016

School Councillors Visit Houses of Parliament

As part of the local Pupil Parliament, our Year 6 School Councillors and Mrs Price joined a group of over 70 pupils and teachers from other local primary schools to visit The Houses of Parliament in London.

We had a fantastic day learning about democracy and the British government. We joined the galleries in the House of Commons, where Jeremy Hunt was leading a debate on junior doctors which was being broadcast live on TV, the House of Lords and the Palace of Westminster. We took part in our own parliamentary debate in attempt to pass a new law and we met the secretary of our local MP, who answered all our questions.

We then has some time to take in the sights of London, including Downing Street, Horse Guards' Parade, Green Park and Buckingham Palace.

It was a fantastic day and Mrs Price was very proud of our two impeccably behaved School Councillors, who were a credit to Torrisholme.

    Torrisholme Time Travellers

This week, the whole school is enjoying a themed week focused upon history.

In Reception, the children have been learning about key events in their own lifetimes, creating some wonderful photo timelines.

In Key Stage 1, the children will be taking it in turns to spend a day with each teacher, learning about different historical topics. These will include 'The Titanic', 'The Great Fire of London', the history of transport and 'Morecambe Now and Then'.

In Key Stage 2, the children are all learning about the Mayan Civilisation.

Year 3 and Year 4 are working together, learning about the lives of Mayan children and the different gods that the Mayan people believed in.

Year 5 and Year 6 are also working together, learning about Mayan society and culture, Mayan writing, the different gods the Mayan people believed in and using their history skills to examine evidence.

Please see class pages for more details. Be aware that your children will have been working in different classes, so they may appear on more than one page!
