Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Holiday Adventures!
Whether it's taking part in our reading challenge, one of our list of holiday challenges or a visit to somewhere exciting, we love hearing about what our families have been up to during the school holidays...
School Uniform Appeal
Well done to the School Council for organising the collection of school uniform for the Foodbank's School Uniform Appeal and thank you to everyone who has sent in a donation. The Foodbank's volunteer's called by with their van and filled it up!!
Holiday Challenge
Our children have worked really hard this term and many have succumbed to the horrible germs that have been floating around. Over the holidays, we would like you to have a good rest and lots of fun!
See how many of our challenges you can do and send your photographs in to Mrs Price deputyhead@torrisholme.lancs.sch.uk
Sport Relief Superstars
These two kind-hearted Year 6 boys have been at school each morning this week at 8am, playing table tennis for an hour before school to raise money for Sport Relief! Well done, boys!
Pupil Parliament Visit London
Yesterday, Mrs Price and two members of the School Council spent the day in London with a group of schools from the local area. We had a great day visiting the Houses of Parliament, where we got to sit in the House of Lords and take part in a debate to discuss a possible new law, and sightseeing. We took in Downing Street, Horse Guard's Parade, Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace, where we saw Prince Charles whizzing by with all his escorts!
The children were a credit to the school and we are very proud of them.
Sponsored Non-Stop Read
And we're off...! 4H were first up this morning and started their first installment from their class book at exactly 9.00am, following a very enthusiastic countdown! The 'baton book' has been doing the rounds visiting each class, assembly and even the school office! Not a minute has passed without a story being shared!
Amazing Authors' Appeal!
As part of our World Book Day celebrations next week, we will be launching some reading incentives to help our quest to encourage a love of reading. For our older children, we will also be striving to encourage a variety of reading material.
For children in Years 4, 5 and 6, we will be introducing a challenge which encourages them to read widely from books written by a selection of amazing authors.
In order for this to be successful, we will be opening a special section in our school library which will contain a host of books written by these specially chosen authors.
The list of authors can be found below. We would like to gather together as many books written by these authors as possible. Any donations of either second hand or new books written by these authors would be gratefully received.
We have had some special labels printed to stick into the front of any books sent in, to show which family donated them.
Many thanks for your support

Science Boffins Kick Off Science Week!
Today we had a visit from the 'Science Boffins' who got our Science Week off to a super sonic start! We had assemblies with some amazing experiments and then smaller workshops with year groups learning about the 'plasma ball' and creating 'playful polymers'! Ask your children to find out more!
Foodbank Collection
Thank you to everyone who sent in donations for our collection to help support the foodbank over the school holidays. Once again, we were able to fill their van due to the generosity of our families. The foodbank later phoned to say our donation weighed in at a quarter of a tonne! Wow!
6S collected the most food this time and will receive a treat from Mrs Penney after half term!
Winners Chosen By Year 5!
Thank you to all the dedicated parents who entered our parents' poetry competition! We had some fantastic entries, most of which appeared to have been composed late on a Friday or Saturday night! Thank you for entering into the spirit of things ![]()
Judging the entries was so difficult, that I delegated the task to the fabulous poets in Year 5. The clear winners were Simon Crossley and Lisa Clarke, who have both won a special, grown up prize! Well done to them both! Certificates to follow to all entrants.
If you haven't read the entries, you can find them on the school blog, on Mrs Price's page - they are well worth a read!
