Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Christmas Fair Crafts and Gifts
The children have been very busy today, creating all sorts of crafts and gifts to sell at tomorrow's Christmas Fair.
In Reception, the children were mixing magic reindeer dust! There were some beautiful, glittery decorations coming together in Year 1. Year 2 were whipping up a mouth-watering selection of treats including marshmallow snowmen and sweetie selections. Year 3's finger paintings were drying out, ready to be transformed into cornucopias which will be filled with sweets. Year 4 were busy decorating their 'jingle jars', ready to fill with goodies! In Year 5 and Year 6, the children have been sewing tree decorations worthy of any garden centre!!
We hope to see you at the fair tomorrow night, where we can sell our wares! You can find each year group's stalls in their classrooms from 3pm.
Reception Teachers Collect Quality Award
Further to being judged ‘Outstanding’ at our recent inspection, the Early Years team have continued to develop the provision offered to our youngest children.
In the autumn term 2016, the school enrolled on the Lancashire Quality Award for Early Years called ‘Step Into Quality.’
Over the last 12 months, Mrs Kippax and Mrs Robinson have led the Reception team in reflecting on existing practice and how this could be enhanced to ensure the very best outcomes for all our children.
Today is the culmination of all the hard work and Mrs Kippax and Mrs Robinson have been presented with their award (Mrs Penney was like a proud parent taking the photo!).
Congratulations to all the staff in our reception classes, you give the children a great start at Torrisholme School.
Foodbank Friday
For the next two weeks, we are collecting for Morecambe Bay Foodbank's Christmas Appeal. Each class has a box in their classroom and the school councillors will be in charge of organising any donations. Please see the picture below for items they are collecting. All donations are very gratefully received.
The Big Book Swap!
Today's 'book swap' was a huge success! Ms Thomas and her band of Year 6 helpers were overwhelmed with a fantastic array of books for children of all ages which they arranged beautifully, ready to open their doors to the rest of the school.
Each class visited and every single child chose a book that is new to them to take home and enjoy. We were also lucky enough to gain some lovely books as additions to our reading areas and library.
Thank you so much to all the families that sent in books. ![]()

Children in Need
Our wonderful families never cease to amaze us! This morning, the most fantastic array of Pudsey Bear themed cakes arrived in school for our Children in Need cake competition and sale! I was relieved that it was the School Council's job to judge and not mine! After much deliberation, they chose two winners in KS1: Chloe and Alice and two winners in KS2: Lucy and Megan.
The School Council had also run a colouring competition this week and prizes were awarded to the winners, once again chosen by our councillors.
Well done and thank you to everyone who entered our competitions and sent in donations - we raised £1001.99 in total!
Lancashire Dance Festival
Led by Mrs Marriott, our fabulous Year 5 dance troupe have been rehearsing hard for weeks in preparation for last night's dance festival.
The group spent yesterday afternoon at the Guild Hall in Preston, rehearsing along with troupes from many other primary, secondary and special schools across Lancashire.
Their final performance at the show was just fantastic and well deserved after such hard work and dedication.
We also enjoyed a surprise dance by the teachers! Mrs Marriott was the star of that show as far as we were concerned! Thank you for all your time and effort, Mrs Marriott and well done children!
For films of the show, please see the Torrisholme TV page, in the 'children' section of the website.
Year 1's Reading Cafe
Thank you to all the grown ups who called into school this afternoon for Year 1's 'reading cafe'. We had a great turn out and it was lovely to see so many people enjoying sharing a book!
A Surprise Visit from Pudsey Bear!
This morning, Mrs Richardson took a surprise phonecall in the school office, to say that Pudsey Bear would be passing school, along with a crew from radio Lancashire, and would it be okay for them to pop into school!
Pudsey met with Mrs Baker and the school council, hearing all about their plans for Children in Need day next Friday, 17th November. We are holding a non-uniform day in exchange for donations and holding a cake sale at playtime.
Pudsey called in to the Year 1 and RKD classrooms, as well as visiting 5B, where he joined in with a dab for a photo and joining in with RR's PE lesson in the hall!
