Family Bike Ride and Picnic
Today's adventure was a bike ride out to the Crook O' Lune at Caton, where our gang of over 70 cyclists enjoyed a picnic. The weather remained dry, although a little blustery and it was great to see so many families joining us.
Tidy Classroom Winners Celebrate Victory!
Winners of Mrs Penney's tidy classroom competition, 3W, enjoyed a cool prize on Friday afternoon! Mrs Williams' class visited the ice cream van where they were treated to 99s, screwballs and lollies after keeping their classroom tip top throughout the competition.
The challenge is now on for this half term's competition - who will be enjoying the prize this time?!
Year 3 & 6 get Collaborative and Creative!!
Children in Y3 and Year 6 have been working on an exciting, creative challenge today, in preparation for their visit to the beach on Monday. Working in teams, they have designed ambitious sandcastles and sand sculptures, which they will be making for a competition! They also created flags, bunting and all sorts of other decorations to adorn their finished masterpieces! later on they also built their very own kites, which they will be flying on Monday. Fingers crossed for the sunshine (and maybe a smidgen of wind!).
Hooray for the Sunshine!
Although yesterday's wet weather didn't stop us from getting out in the 'Great Outdoors' for our whole school topic, it was fantastic to see so many classes getting outdoors this morning! Year 5 were out, taking part in all sorts of collaborative challenges, which included water, blindfolds and swamps! Year 4 were drumming on trees, fences and benches, working very creatively in their groups. Year 1 were building pirate islands using sand and lots of materials they had collected, whilst some children were getting mathematical with pirate treasure!
Foodbank Friday
This Friday, we are collecting donations for Morecambe Bay Foodbank. All donations of non-perishable food items are gratefully received. The Foodbank are especially short of pasta sauce, instant mashed potato, tinned rice pudding, sponge puddings and custard.
Family Bike Ride and Picnic
As part of the 'Great Outdoors' topic, which all classes are working on, we are organising a Family Bike Ride and Picnic, which will take place on Saturday 6th June 2015, weather permitting.
We plan to meet at Salt Ayre car park, where cars can be left, ready to set off at 11.00am.
We will cycle along the cycle track to the Crook O' Lune, aiming to arrive for a picnic at about 12.45pm.
The distance from Salt Ayre to the Crook is about 9km (5.5 miles) and took Mr Gittins and Freddie about an hour (including a crash!).
Although this is a very easy ride, we are suggesting appropriate 'pick up points' along the way for families with younger children, who may like to do part of the trip.
Unfortunately, the café at the Crook is closed that weekend, so families will need to take food and drinks with them for the picnic.
All children must wear a cycle helmet, must be accompanied by an adult and remain the responsibility of that adult at all times.
If the trip has to be cancelled, a text will be sent to all parents before 10.00am on the Saturday morning.
We hope to see you there!
Y5 & 6 Street Art Exhibition
After spending a week working on their joint 'Art on the Street' project, the children in Y5 & 6 invited their parents in to show off their art work, rapping, jamming and their street dance moves!
Y4 Terrible Tudor Exhibition
To celebrate the end of their Tudor topic, the children in Y4 invited their parents in to showcase some of their work. Parents were treated to singing, ICT work and exhibitions put together by the children in small groups.
Open Sessions for Parents
Parents of children in Y4, Y5 and Y6 are invited into school tomorrow to share the children's work.
Year 5 & 6 children are welcoming parents into school between 9am - 10.20am to see the culmination of the joint topic on 'Art on the Street'. This will include films of the children's raps, an exhibition of graffiti art and pavement style art, along with live street dance performances!
Year 4 are inviting parents along to a display of the children's work on the 'Terrible Tudors', between 1.45pm - 2.45pm. This will include sharing cartoons created on the computers using coding programs, an exhibition of art work and some music. We look forward to seeing you there!
Year 4 Nepal Fund Raising
We are so proud of our Year 4 superstars, who were so moved after learning about the earthquake in Nepal that they decided they wanted to do something to raise money to help.
They worked together to plan a cake sale and a sponsored swim, raising over £800 for the appeal in total! What a fantastic achievement!
A big thanks to all those people who donated cakes, bought cakes and sponsored the swimmers and a huge well done to Year 4 for their kindness and hard work. ![]()
