Thundernapping!!
On Wednesday 26th February, when Year 1 were out of school on an educational trip to Clitheroe Castle, their much loved pet dragon, Thunder, was dragon napped!
Whilst the classroom was left unprotected, three villains planned, plotted and schemed to capture the dragon, tie him up and hide him.
On returning from the trip the children were faced with an empty classroom and a ransom note.
To rescue him, the children in class 1B/D had to find the people responsible for dragon napping Thunder, and that was what they intended to do...
NATIONAL TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Torrisholme’s great table tennis adventure came to an end at Grantham with 3 narrow defeats against some of the country’s best young players in the last 16 of the National tournament on Sunday 23rd February.
An exciting first match against Bradford Grammar School saw Torrisholme on the end of 3 five set defeats. Lucas, Matthew and Will each won a match, leading to a 5-3 defeat.
Against Kingston-Upon-Hull, Torrisholme expected a heavy defeat. However, great performances from all the boys, especially Lucas and Matthew who won 2 and 1 match respectively, saw Torrisholme again suffer a 5-3 defeat.
In the last match, with the boys naturally exhibiting signs of tiredness, Lucas and Matthew were again victorious in a 6-2 defeat. Lucas left the tournament as the strongest number 4 player, having defeated the other three number 4s, as well as a number 3, on his way to a record of: played 6, won 4. Matthew won 3 of his matches, Will won 1 and Bradley, although he battled hard, didn’t manage to record a victory.
All the boys played with talent, spirit and sportsmanship and can be extremely proud of their efforts this year.
WOW DAY
On Thursday 13th February, Reception held a WOW day. WOW day involved the parents coming into school to celebrate their child's learning and achievements to date. The time spent in the classroom provided opportunities for parents to experience their child's learning environment and to look at their child's learning journeys. The children loved having their parents in school and really enjoyed showing them their favourite places to work in the classroom. We plan to have more WOW days throughout the year!
SPACE SLEEPOVER AND EXHIBITION
Torrisholme’s first ever Space Sleepover was a marvellous success, in spite of there being no stars to see. The children returned to school at 6:00pm and spent two hours completing their research and putting together their exhibits. They then went outside for an hour and used a real-life telescope. We also used iPads and iPhones to plot where the stars were. After returning inside, children had toast and hot chocolate and settled down to watch ET.
In the morning, with the hall transformed into a museum exhibit, parents were invited to wander round and learn about topics such as Neil Armstrong, animals in space and telescopes. Children acted as experts and answered all the questions that were thrown at them. Parents were very complementary about the work the children had put in to make such a professional exhibition.
YEAR 3 CARNIVAL DAY
On Wednesday 12th February, Rick came into school from More Music Morecambe and held workshops with each Year 3 class. One class learned samba rhythm and the other merengue.
Children prepared Brazilian savoury pastries, fruit salad and lemonade. They also made head dresses which they wore to perform and dance samba steps for parents. Parents were then invited to enjoy our Brazilian food and drink!
Many a samba shimmy and box step was seen!
Thank you to all who came and showed their support. We raised £66.67 so we can now sponsor a frog!
