Christmas Celebrations!
Today we celebrated Christmas and the end of term with a fabulous festive sing-a-long (and a performance from a crazy snowman and some strange dancers!) and a wonderful Christmas lunch!
Thank you to our cook and all her helpers in the kitchen today - it was yummy!
Key Stage One Singing Club
On Wednesday, our Key Stage 1 singing club took at trip to Eric Morecambe House, to sing some of their favourite Christmas songs for the residents. We all had a great time - thank you Mrs Jones! ![]()
Enterprise Winnings
After discussion, the children in year 4 have decided to donate their winnings to the Morecambe Food Bank. The kindness of our children never ceases to amaze me!
The children have created a food list and nominated three children from 4D (Jamie, Matty and Lucy), and three children from 4H (Ashton, Sara-Jane and Will) to go shopping to Asda with our £210 pounds and buy the food for the charity. In the words of the children 'They need it more than we do, especially at Christmas!' How lovely!
Yesterday, the chosen children, accompanied by Miss Devey, Mr Harding and Mrs Price set off to Asda, where they were met by volunteers from the Foodbank, the store manager and Emma Finch, who works at Asda managing their community liaisons.
The manager was keen to hear all about their enterprise work and how they had made such huge profits! He even offered each one of them a job for the future!!!
We then set off around the store, armed with our list and some special trolleys decorated with balloons!
It took almost two hours to spend our money, check it all out and pack it up ready for dispatch to the Foodbank. Later on, we received this fabulous email from Annette, the Foodbank co-ordinator:
To all the staff and pupils at Torrisholme Primary School
Thank you all very much for all your hard work, making crafts and collecting donations and money for the foodbank.
Your shopping trip today to Asda collected 400 kgs of food, toiletries and children's treats for us. That is over a quarter of a tonne,
400kgs of food in parcels would make at least 850 meals.
It was a pleasure to meet some of you this last week and we loved being invited to come shopping with you.
Keep up the good work
Annette and Jane
We are so proud of our wonderful children for their efforts!
Following our recent 'Enterprise Week', each year group had a tricky decision to make...how would they spend their profits?! In total, the children made over £1000 in profit, which was split with the PTFA, leaving over £500 for the children to spend!!
Each year group had discussions and a vote. Our children's generosity never ceases to amaze us, as every single year group decided to donate to their money to a charity.
Reception's money was donated to Derian House Children's Hospice, Year 1 children donated to Children in Need, Year 2 donated to Save the Children, Year 4 made a huge shopping list and went to Adsa to buy food for Morecambe Bay Foodbank, Year 5 donated to St. John's Hospice and Year 6 donated to Cancer Care.
See below for further details of Year 4's epic shopping trip!!!
