Winners Chosen By Year 5!
Thank you to all the dedicated parents who entered our parents' poetry competition! We had some fantastic entries, most of which appeared to have been composed late on a Friday or Saturday night! Thank you for entering into the spirit of things ![]()
Judging the entries was so difficult, that I delegated the task to the fabulous poets in Year 5. The clear winners were Simon Crossley and Lisa Clarke, who have both won a special, grown up prize! Well done to them both! Certificates to follow to all entrants.
If you haven't read the entries, you can find them on the school blog, on Mrs Price's page - they are well worth a read!
Poetry Dressing Up Day
A big thank you to all our families who helped the children put together such wonderful costumes for our poetry/nursery rhyme themed dressinh up day today. We had great fun on the catwalk showing off our outfits and listening to the poems children had chosen.

Poe Tree Appears in School Hall!
On Tuesday morning, Mr Dodd was amazed to find a small tree had appeared in the school hall! Mrs Broom and Ms Thomas showed the children the mysterious seedling in assembly and the children suggested how we could look after it. They suggested watering it and so on, but one very clever boy in Year 3 suggested that it may in fact be a 'poe tree'. He suggested that we should read poems to it and on Tuesday afternoon, his class went down to the hall to share some poems with the tree.
Amazingly, by Wednesday morning, the tree had transformed into a beautiful, sparkling tree - our Torrisholme Poe Tree!
Visiting Poet Andy Tooze
To kick off our poetry week, we had a visit from published poet Andy Tooze. Andy shared many of his poems with the children and held workshops with each different age group to inspire the children to write and perform their own poems.
After school, we held a book sale and signing in the school hall.
