Regenerating Morecambe
To conclude our theme week on the local area, the children spent today looking at Morecambe's future.
Children in Key Stage 1 discussed all the amenities they would like to see in Torrisholme village and made models of how this might look. They also collated ideas for developing Torrisholme park, which they will be sharing with local council employees.
In Key Stage 2, the children considered the currently disused land on the site next to Morrison's and Aldi. They worked in small team to collect ideas, build a model to illustrate and pitched their proposals.
It was great to see all the children getting involved and in addition to building on their geography skills, developing those of team work and collaboration, working with children from other classes and year groups. A super day!
Celebrating Morecambe in the Swinging Sixties!
This week's theme week is all about our wonderful local area. We started the week by learning about Morecambe in its heyday - the swinging sixties! The children learned all about the different tourist attractions that Morecambe had to offer and the different events the town hosted.
Many of the children also got into the swing of things by dressing up sixties style! Don't they look fabulous!
Holiday Challenge - Getting Out and About in Our Local Area
To fit in with our next theme week, this half term's holiday challenge was to send in photos of your family enjoying the local area. We have been absolutely overwhelmed by 200 photos! What a great half term you have all had in the sunshine!
We drew out a winner from all the families who took part and a family cinema voucher went to Lilly, whose mum sent in photos of Lilly being a flower girl and her Mum and Dad's wedding at The Midland Hotel! Congratulations to Lilly and her family, and thank you to all the families who took part.
