    Torrisholme Triumph at Inter-School Athletics!

There is another trophy gleaming in our cabinet today, after our terrific team swept the boards at the athletics competition, winning with the highest points total that any school has achieved in the last five years!

Torrisholme team members broke three records and Sacha in Y4 was presented with a trophy for the 'outstanding performance of the day' - what an achievement!

Mr Gittins was incredibly proud of all the children and his voice is distinctly quieter today after all his cheering!!

See the sports pages for more details and photos!

    Visiting Author - Kate Pankhurst

Today we had a visit from author, Kate Pankhurst. She ran sessions with each class in the hall and visited the Reception children in their classrooms. She told us all about how she creates her books and their characters and we even had a go at creating and illustrating some characters.

    The Great Outdoors

What a busy day it's been in the great outdoors at Torrisholme today! It was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents joining us for the Reception scavenger hunt, the Y4 'Wilderness Day' and the Y5 Olympics. Thank you to all those who attended - the children love to share their learning with you. smiley

Obituary Notice - Rosie the Guinea Pig

It is with great sadness that we notify you of the passing of Rosie, our much loved school guinea pig.

Rosie died peacefully this morning, with Nibbles at her side. We are unsure of the cause of Rosie's death, but we are sure she didn't suffer.

Mrs Penney took Rosie to the vet, who will take care of her burial.

At this sad time, we all need to be extra kind to Nibbles, who seems to be missing her friend a lot. We know that Rosie loved being our school pet and really enjoyed your visits, strokes and cuddles.

Mrs Penney is going to take advice on whether it is a good idea to introduce a new friend to keep Nibbles company.

    Family Bike Ride and Picnic

Today's adventure was a bike ride out to the Crook O' Lune at Caton, where our gang of over 70 cyclists enjoyed a picnic. The weather remained dry, although a little blustery and it was great to see so many families joining us.

Year 3 & 6 get Collaborative and Creative!!

Children in Y3 and Year 6 have been working on an exciting, creative challenge today, in preparation for their visit to the beach on Monday. Working in teams, they have designed ambitious sandcastles and sand sculptures, which they will be making for a competition! They also created flags, bunting and all sorts of other decorations to adorn their finished masterpieces! later on they also built their very own kites, which they will be flying on Monday. Fingers crossed for the sunshine (and maybe a smidgen of wind!).

    Hooray for the Sunshine!

Although yesterday's wet weather didn't stop us from getting out in the 'Great Outdoors' for our whole school topic, it was fantastic to see so many classes getting outdoors this morning! Year 5 were out, taking part in all sorts of collaborative challenges, which included water, blindfolds and swamps! Year 4 were drumming on trees, fences and benches, working very creatively in their groups. Year 1 were building pirate islands using sand and lots of materials they had collected, whilst some children were getting mathematical with pirate treasure!
